My Four Miraculous Treasures

Chapter 92

"Yesterday..." Willow began, preparing to tell the story of how she'd been cleaning Jasper's office, when she suddenly got caught up in Edith's big confession of love to him.

"Yesterday, you skipped half a day's work! When you finally showed up, I sent you to clean the top floor, but for some reason, you cleaned everywhere except Mr. Hughes' office! Are you hoping to get fired?! I bet you didn't know that I inspect the whole building at the end of each day! I can tell, with one look, whether you've done a proper job of cleaning a room... or not! There's no use lying to me!" Without allowing Willow a fair chance to explain herself, Sean attacked her first, arms crossed and eyes blazing.

Willow's eyes fluttered in surprise. So the head janitor was actually talking about something else!

She scrambled to answer his real question: "It's not like that, sir! Mr. Hughes was in his office the whole evening, yesterday! I didn't want to disturb him at work, that's why I didn't go in that day!" "Alright, fair enough. Here... from now on, you'll stay until Mr. Hughes leaves, so that you can clean his office before you go."

Willow was taken aback. "What if he stays late?"

"Then you'll stay late, with him. There'll be overtime pay, of course... but if I ever find Mr. Hughes' office in a mess again, you'll lose half a month's pay!" And that was Sean, laying down the law. Willow bravely forced herself to smile. "Mr. Fawcett, I have another idea..."

"I think this is the best solution, so that's that." Saying so, Sean turned and walked off.

Willow felt like breaking down to cry.

From now on, she couldn't go home before Jasper did. What if he was the sort of workaholic who finished late every day? What if he stayed all the way until midnight?!

In that case, she'd be stuck here until midnight, too!noveldrama

No, she wanted to leave work as soon as possible, spend more time with her lovely children, get some more sleep...

With a heart full of despair, Willow went up to the top floor and began mopping the corridors. Then, a pair of high heels stopped in front of her mop.

They were beige, and looked very expensive, fit for a queen.

Willow looked up into the haughty, pretty face of Edith Price.

Instead of black-and-white business

formal like the last time, today Edith

elnet

was setting new heights in workplace fashion for women. A matching ensemble in canary yellow, long black hair permed into waxy tresses, face painted into a mesmerizing portrait.

Fashionably feminine. Upper-class and refined.

Nothing like the usual no-nonsense professional image that Edith Price used to have. Willow went cross-eyed at the sight of her. What a beauty!

"Ms. Nason, I'd like to see you in my office for a moment!" Edith snapped, then turned and strutted back into her own office, each step powerful face a and captivating, like a supermodel down the runway.

Willow set her mop aside, then hurried after her.

Standing before Edith's office desk, she asked, "Ms. Price, what can I help you with?"

Edith placed her handphone upon the desk, and it began to play a recording... a voice recording, of that conversation inside the lift, when those women had been gossiping about Jasper and Edith.

"Yes?" Willow asked quizzically.

"Ms. Nason, do you know the punishment for spreading rumors and gossip?" Edith hissed sharply, glaring hard at her with cold eyes full of hatred.

Willow was

barefaced tramp in humble rags... but she had an innocent sort of purity about her that Edith herself lacked. Edith suspected that this was what drew Jasper Hughes to Willow Nason.
