My Four Miraculous Treasures

Chapter 22

Willow still had things to settle. The police officer was still waiting for her eyewitness.

What's more, she needed to call and tell her mother that her children had somehow snuck into the company. She had to know if her mother had been here as well. If her mother hadn't, then she would have to go look for the children. It was dangerous for preschoolers to be running around outside without supervision.

"What's the matter? Did you forget that this is your job? Are you trying to slack off again?" snapped Edith impatiently.

"Alright," Willow said meekly.

After that, Edith left the office and ran after Jasper.

Jasper marched down the corridor, and she slow-jogged behind him. She was obsessed with the air he exuded-whether it was his imposing aura, his masculine energy, his noble temperament, or his flawlessly handsome face. Jasper was the man of her dreams.

Jasper's footsteps soon came to an abrupt halt. He turned and demanded, "Ms. Price, it seems to me something is on your mind lately. How could you make such an elementary mistake?"

Yesterday, he had reminded her not to let random strangers on his floor.

Although she replied to all his instructions with an obedient yes, four little brats somehow managed to get into his office and make a mess of everything. The children aside, he had to hold his secretary accountable for her negligence.

The moment Edith met his gaze, she hastily nodded and admitted her mistake. "I'm sorry, Mr. Hughes. It was my mistake. Please issue any punishment as you see fit."

"Since you haven't been taking your work seriously, I'll....."

Before he could fire her, Edith pleaded nervously, "Sir, I promise I'll work on myself. Please don't fire me."

She had remained by Jasper's side for a decade. If she lost him, how could she go on living?

Jasper stared at her coldly for a few seconds. Edith remained as stubborn as ever, clinging desperately to her job as his secretary.

"Take three months off. You don't have to come to the office during that time," he said, before marching off.

Edith followed behind him, and protested, "Sir, three months is too long! I'll take three days off work. You can rest assured I'll work extra hard in the future. I won't repeat the same mistake ever again! Whatever you say, I'll have it done. In fact, let me call HR and get Lara fired right now."

She recalled Jasper asking her to fire Willow, but she had almost forgotten to do so because of the four troublemakers.

That woman must be fired at all costs. For each day she remained in their company, Edith wouldn't be able to sleep well.

Just as she pulled out her phone and was about to call HR, Jasper interrupted her.

"Forget it. I'll have to hire another janitor if I fire her. It's the same either way."

What annoyed Jasper was the fact that Lara reminded him of that woman from five years ago. Even worse, because of her, he lost control of his urges and actually kissed her.

He had always prided himself on having extreme self-control. And yet, this woman somehow made herself the sole exception.noveldrama

For now, he wanted to keep her by his side as an experiment.

From now on, he swore to never repeat his mistake. Today was merely an exception. Next time, he would hold himself back.

Lara would serve as a test of his willpower, so it was crucial for her to remain in the company.

"By the way, while you're taking your time off, I want you to drop by Nason Village and check if that woman's really dead, or if she has any sisters," he instructed.

Edith stopped in her tracks. She stared at Jasper's back, a chill running down her spine.
